Mexico High School Threats Determined No Immediate Danger

Mexico Public Safety Department and Mexico Public Schools were notified Sunday, Nov. 8, 2010 of possible threats made by a student made against the school.  After contacting the teenager and the teenagers family the threats were determined that there is "no indication of immediate danger".  The student states his comments were misunderstood.  Classes were held Monday as scheduled.

Cauthorn Defeats Schultz, Hobbs Unopposed in Audrain County's Presiding Commissioner

Former state Senator John Cauthorn wins by 17 pts over Kelly Schultz.  Cauthorn takes over position of Representative Steve Hobbs.  Mr. Hobbs ran unopposed as Audrain County's presiding Commissioner taking the position over after Democratic Richard Webber retires.

Timothy Baudour of Mexico, MO and 2 Others Escape Jail



Timothy J. Baudour of Mexico, MO and 2 others escape Daviess/DeKalp County jail Sunday night. 
Baudour is a white male, 6'3, 200lbs, brown hair. Tattoos of a Midwest hustler on his stomach, the word “Mexico” on his upper chest and “Tigger” on his right arm.  Baudour was being held for a Hyvee incident earlier this year for allegedly trying to steal almost $1700 in liquor and using a box cutter to injure an employee.  Baudour was charged with 1st degree assault, 3 counts of assault in the 2nd degree, stealing, resisting arrest and burglary in the 2nd degree.

Mexico Citizen Dies in Car Crash

Mexico citizen Don Spradlin age 25 dies in a car crash on ACR 440 Sunday morning.  According to the Missouri Highway Patrol, Spradlin was driving at a high rate of speed and lost control.  He was pronounced  at the scene by Deputy Todd Yager at 12;25AM.  Court dockets show that Spradlin was scheduled for a Final Disp/Sent Hrng on November 1st for a Oper Motor Vehicle On Hwy While Driv License/Priv Revoked charge.

Mexico Housing Authority's Executive Director John Afoun Leaving Mexico

Last Monday online articles showed up stating that Mexico Housing Authority's Executive Director John Afoun has accepted a postion with the Moline Housing Authority in Illinois.  According to KOMU, the news of Mr. Afoun leaving Mexico was unknown to Mexico citizens, including Mexico Housing Authority Board Members.  Earlier this year, KOMU did an investigative report questioning Mr. Afoun's resume.  The reports looks into the issue of falscifications on his resume and cell phone charges being billed to the housing authority.  KOMU reports that HUD is currently still "examining" those charges as well as other allegations.  According to reliable sources, HUD is scheduled to do an onsite visit in two weeks, which is not a regularly scheduled practice.

Investigation Continues on the Hardee Fire


A fire destroyed the Hardees located at 707 West Jackson St last Saturday at 5:18am.  Employees found flames on the walls and ceiling in a storage room.  The investigation of the cause continues.  The franchise states they intend to rebuild after the investigation is complete.
